![]() ![]() Let us know if you think this is the issue and we can describe the replacement process.Typically, a fuel tank must allow or provide the following: I had this happen on my '95 RS and had to replace both of the hoses. ![]() Over time these hoses break down and ofter start to leak inside the gas tank allowing some gas to leak out the hose as you describe. They are both mostly black and the original hoses have different stripes on them (one yellow and one white) that is an attempt to keep them from being hooked up wrongly. Then there are two more hoses that go from the bottom of the tank to the rear brake peddle. Both hoses run through the gasoline in the tank and attach to two outlet pipes on the bottom of the tank were your main gas lines (in and out) attach. The other hose attaches to a plastic air chamber thing inside the tank and allows the tank to vent. You can try blowing through each hose with the gas cap open and one of the hoses should blow air through the small hole on the fill rim under the gas cap. If this is the case then the procedure calls for routing the gas tank vent hose just like the gas cap drain hose down by the rear brake. Remove your right saddle bag and if there is not black canister with hoses attached to it, then chances are yours has been removed. The canister is a black thing that sits under the rear seat on the right (throttle) side of the bike. There is a strong possibility that the charcoal canister was removed from the bike. The other hose is for the gas overfill hole (water drain hole) that you see in the rim under the gas cap. One is for the battery which often gets removed when a maintenance free battery is used to replace the OEM one. On a stock '96 RT I'd expect two 8mm (or 7mm?) hoses hanging down by the rear brake lever. The question that would come to mind is have you removed your gas tank recently, or some time ago in the past, and mistakenly reconnected the vent hoses to the wrong return line? The two lines (vent to air and vent to canister) can be mistakenly connected to the wrong return line in which case I can see where you would vent a bit of fuel. I think the vent line for water runs internally inside the tank then exits where the fuel filter/pump is located. I'm not sure why the vent line would be dripping fuel, unless:Ī) The cannister was removed and rerouted (I was planning to do that to mine soon) and any vented fumes/fuel that would normally go to the cannister is now being expelled.ī) The water vent line is cracked, damaged, or improperly routed and is venting fuel. The vent line (for water) does exit by the right foot peg from what I recall. If I remember correctly there is a vent line from the gas tank to the chacoal cannister and I think another from the gas tank to drain water from the outer ring of the gas cap area when it rains.
